Microsoft has a lot of ecology built up around the developer community. One such community portal from Microsoft is known as “Channel 9”. If you have never heard of Channel 9, stop reading this post, open another tab and browse to the site http://channel9.msdn.com/.

So you may ask what is Channel 9. Here is the official description from folks at Channel 9 about what they are:

Channel 9 is a community. We bring forward the people behind our products and connect them with those who use them.

We think there is a great future in software and we’re excited about it. We want the community to participate in the on going conversation.

This is the heart of Channel 9. We talk about our work but listen to the customer.

Now Channel 9 has come out with what is known as “Niney Awards”. I call this as the Grammys of the Community eco space. This is an award for the community voted by the community. Here is the official word from the Channel 9 itself on what is Niney awards:

The Nineys will be a celebration of Channel 9 and its community. We are looking to honour some of the great work being done by you and give you the opportunity to get your voice heard about what content you love here on Channel 9. This is completely decided by you, the voters, and we will announce the winners at MIX ’11.

So as you can see this is to honour the community person who are doing some great work for the community.

The voting lines are open. The Niney awards will be presented as any other award ceremony during the Mix 2011.
